You may already know that Google, which is the biggest search engine int the world, often creates special images and games on their home page which they call “Doodles”. These doodles denote special celebrations, important days, birthdays and cultures from all over the world. On 21 May 2020, the Google Doodle celebrated the mbira, which is our favourite instrument (and Gogo Zana’s too)!
According to the behind-the-scenes video, a team from Google travelled to Zimbabwe to do some research. They met with people who play the mbira and champion it as an important part of Zimbabwean culture. The doodle they created shows us why the instrument and the music that it makes are so special. We think they did a really good job! Visit the Celebrating Mbira doodle page to have some fun!
